HSBC Asia wealth head relocates to Shanghai

HSBC has announced changes to its China and Asia heads for its international wealth and premier banking (IWPB) sgement, according to an internal memo seen by AsianInvestor Wealth.
Trista Sun, currently China head of IWPB, will become managing director for strategic projects at IWPB. In this newly created role, she will manage projects critical to accelerating the delivery of the firm's growth agenda, including boosting cross-border customer acquisition and capturing fund flows.
Sun will relocate from Shanghai to Hong Kong and report to global wealth head Barry O’Byrne. Sun joined the bank in 2004.
Zhang will relocate from Singapore to Shanghai to take on the new role in addition to her existing role as Asia head of IWPB, effective May 1. Zhang joined the bank in 2023.
"Mainland China plays a central role in our ambition to be the leading international wealth manager for affluent and high net worth clients in Asia and the Middle East," the internal memo noted.
Expansion
For the onshore China wealth business, HSBC also in 2021 appointed Jackie Mau as head of global private banking, mainland China. Mau relocated from Hong Kong to Shanghai since the appointment.
Most recently, HSBC opened a new wealth centre in Hangzhou, marking the sixth such launch in mainland China. The bank also plans to expand this initiative further, with additional centres set to launch in major cities such as Guangzhou, Nanjing, Qingdao and Dalian by the end of this year.
HSBC in last June completed the acquisition of Citi’s retail wealth management portfolio in mainland China.
